João Castro Pinto . "SUNTRIA - imaginal sonotopes" através da Orquestra de Altifalantes
Firstly focused on tributary musical expressions of "independent rock", João Castro Pinto began his public musical activity 25 years ago, having integrated several musical projects and performed live with various bands. Since 1996, he directed his interest and artistic research towards experimental music, initiating the first sonic experiences in the context of electroacoustic / acousmatic music in 1997, experiences that were progressively cemented and, shortly thereafter, guaranteed to the composer a selection for the 1999’s National Young Artists Contest / Show. Nevertheless, and previously, November 20th 1998 marked the date of his first solo performance, the one he considers to be the founder of the musical journey that now, in November 2018, completes 20 years. During the last two decades he has done several artistic residencies and his work has been distinguished with several awards. His music has been presented in Europe, America and Asia at festivals and events such as INA-GRM Multiphonies (France), ICMC (International Computer Music Conference), Seoul International Computer Music Festival (South Korea), Experimental Intermedia Foundation (USA), Visiones Sonoras (Mexico), MUSLAB - International Exhibition of Electroacoustic Music (Argentina), Audio Art Festival (Poland), etc.
It is in consonance with the celebratory motto of the 20 years of the trajectory traced in experimental music that João Castro Pinto proposes to interpret, through Miso Music’s Portugal Loudspeakers Orchestra, "SUNTRIA - imaginal sonotopes", a soundscape composition focused on the soundscape of Sintra’s mountains (Sintra-Cascais Natural Park), released in 2017 by Unfathomless, which will have its absolute premiere at this concert. *
* (the duration of the piece is 43 minutes and is composed of 12 parts, four of them [sonotopes I to IV] were premiered at DME FESTIVAL concert @ MUSLAB 2017- International Electroacoustic Music Show, in Mexico City. However, the piece as a whole will be presented for the first time on this occasion, being therefore considered an absolute premiere).
