GENESIS OPERA PROJECT
Call for Entries
The Genesis Foundation is now inviting applications for the
second Genesis Opera Project (formerly The Genesis Prizes
for Opera), an international commissioning scheme for new
opera and music theatre. The project is open to composers
aged 35-years and under and their collaborators.
Genesis is looking for both composer-led projects and those
that have been initiated by writers, directors or other members
of a creative team. The project actively supports artists from
other disciplines considering working in opera.
Over a two-year period, Genesis will support music theatre
makers in every aspect of the creation, production and
performance of a project. It is seeking original, inventive and
skilled work that speaks to a contemporary audience.
How it works
The closing date for applications is 14 April 2003. Six projects
will be short-listed for development by an advisory panel (with
a commission fee of £3,000 to each composer and writer)
culminating in workshops in London in early 2004. Three of
the projects will be chosen for full production in London and
elsewhere in 2005 with further commission fees payable of £15,000 to the composer and £3,000 to the writer.
I am currently looking into opportunities to promote the project
within music colleges and universities. We have a double-sided A5 îtasterî leaflet, which offers those who are interested
the chance to find out more by returning a tear-off slip. There
is also a full application form (A5, 8pp), which is also available
as a download from our website. The form is available on-line
in English, French, German, Italian and Spanish.
The three successful applicants to the first Genesis Opera
Project are due to be performed at London's Almeida Opera
festival in June/July 2003. More information about these
entrants and full information, guidelines and application forms
for Genesis Opera Project 2 can be found on our website

ISCM World New Music Days 2009
Call for Works and Projects
The 2009 edition of ISCM World New Music Days will be held in Sweden between September 24 and October 4. The festival will move through three cities, each with a strong contemporary music profile. The first part will be in medieval Visby on Gotland, the meeting place in the Baltic Sea, the second one in Växjö and the Kingdom of Glass and the last one in Sweden's gateway to the western seas and the Continent, namely Göteborg. The artistic theme for the 2009 festival is Listen to the World!
The 2009 festival seeks to establish a new position for art music, one as pioneer not only in music, but also in terms of taking responsiAbility for our world and its development. In contrast to the fact that its artistic quality and expressive breadth have expanded in all directions?, contemporary art music has, generally, failed to make itself a part of the cultural and political discourses. We are convinced that this can change. Art music can assume a more prominent position? in societal and cultural development.
Deadline for entries is 15 June 2008 (postmarked).
Individual applications as well as submissions by ISCM members should be
sent to the following address:

In addition to submissions addressing the conference theme, the organising committee welcomes submissions on all traditional areas of computer music.
In line with the theme for 2008, the Conference also exposes the synergies between computer music and traditional musics. For 2008 there will be a particular emphasis on Irish traditional music and a new ensemble has been established which comprises internationally renowned contemporary and Irish traditional music specialists. The 'Roots' Ensemble is designed to explore the juxtaposition of two distinct performance practices and musical languages through the creation of new repertoire. It comprises flute(s), saxophone(s), trombone, piano, violin, cello, percussion, Irish fiddle, Irish harp, accordion, and uilleann pipes. Composers may submit works for any of these instruments but we especially welcome new works for combinations of Irish traditional and contemporary instruments, including larger works for 8 or more instruments.
The submission period for all music/paper/demo contributions is 1 December 2007 - 25 January 2008.
Details on the submission process will be posted on
www.icmc2008.net on 1 December.
